3D PRINTING
3D printing is becoming more and more popular, although the technology itself is over thirty years old, it has become available to the average user only a few years ago.
To explain the importance of 3D printingit is spatial, three-dimensional printing, on the basis of a computer model a physical object is produced. At the very beginning, 3D printing was mainly based on rapid prototyping, but at this point, thanks to the increasing accuracy of 3D printers, it is possible to create ready-made objects such as prostheses, game components, engine models and many car parts and even chocolates.
You can print from plastics such as ABS, which is one of the basic plastics used in 3D printing (Acrylonitrile-Butadieno-Styrene) and one of the most widely used plastics in the world. The advantage of ABS is that it withstands higher temperatures than PLA, and it is also more flexible and does not yield to the forces acting on it so easily. It is a relatively hard material, has a high resistance to some chemicals, including oils, is easy to process, can be effortlessly sanded, polished, scratched, reamed.
PLA (Palliactide) is a lactic acid, which is produced mainly from such natural materials as corn meal. Thanks to its origin, this filament is fully biodegradable.
PLA is characterized by high mechanical strength and good adhesion of layers, but unfortunately it is brittle and despite its higher hardness than ABS, due to its low elastic properties it cracks more easily under external stresses. PLA prints soften and deform at a temperature of about 70 degrees (e.g. left in a hot summer car interior). It is not a purely structural material, due to its brittleness and low softening temperature we rarely use PLA to make functional prototypes.
Another material for printing is HIPS one of the most popular types of filaments, it is used primarily as a support material in prints with complicated geometry and on printers allowing for printing many materials at the same time. This filter can also be used for standard standalone prints. HIPS prints can be used in contact with food (after meeting several important conditions for a 3D printer), it is a high impact material.
NYLONon the other hand, is one of the most durable filaments available for 3D printersworking in FDM technology. In addition, it is also one of the most difficult materials and printing from it is very difficult. It has a very high abrasion resistance, high mechanical strength allowing for 50% elongation before breaking, is unbreakable, resistant to most organic solvents, acids and bases, designed primarily for printing mechanical components, very strongly absorbs moisture, prints are characterized by a porous structure.
PET is a filament that can be an alternative to PLA, eliminating all its disadvantages. It is equally easy to print on it, and at the same time it is much harder and can withstand much higher temperatures. It has low moisture absorption, ideal for printing all kinds of lamp shades and other light transmitting models.
